Good Morning! - 2010.08.03 - Psalm 107:8 - Oh That Men Would Praise the Lord

Good Morning!

Oh that men would praise the LORD for his

goodness, and for his wonderful works to

the children of men!  (Psalm 107:8)

Some people find it easy to praise the Lord but most do not. It has always been that way. The psalmist repeats this verse four times in this wonderful Psalm.

We think of contacting God through prayer and find it easy to forget that He reveals Himself as the One….that inhabitest the praises of Israel.  (Psalm 22:3)

Our hymn books are second only to the Bible in containing substance for prayer and praise to God. Most hymnals contain at least a dozen praise songs. We do not have to sing the hymns. They are good reading. Only a few people here and there ever read hymns.

Some people feel that in order to pray effectively that we have to think up all the words of our prayer as we go along: spontaneous prayers. That's good, especially if you are "in the Spirit" and your thoughts and words are being driven by the Holy Spirit.

May I suggest that you read through the Psalms and mark the ones that seem to express what you feel in your heart. THEN…READ A PSALM TO THE LORD.

Read a hymn or two from your private hymn book at home and then PRAY THE HYMN TO THE LORD. That may be all you need to warm your heart and help you to reach out to the Lord.

We are short on praising the Lord for who He is and for what He has already done. Unless you are in a crisis like Peter walking on water and beginning to sink, it is better to begin prayer time with at least a brief period of thanksgiving and praise. If you have memorized some praise hymns, sing a hymn of praise to the Lord.

Let's get in the habit of praising the Lord daily and throughout the day and when we awaken in the middle of the night.
